2015 Year End Update

We accomplished so much in 2015 thanks to your support and the hard work of our many volunteers.

Funding Secured for Soccer Field Renovation, Outdoor Adult Workout Center, and Park Lighting

Our goal last year was to advocate for Franklin Square to renovate the soccer field as well as to install additional lighting and construct an outdoor adult workout center and a new, fenced-in dog play area. We are very proud to announce that together with San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Franklin Square received funding to renovate the soccer field and install the outdoor adult workout center.

Through the advocacy of Supervisor Cohen, Franklin Square also was allotted $25,000 to install lighting along the western edge of the park bordering Bryant Street. Although Friends of Franklin Square was not awarded grant funding from the Community Opportunity Fund, we are re-applying in 2015 for the fenced in dog play area with additional irrigation and water conservation amenities.

Community Building

Our Friends at Trumark Urban led three Franklin Square Park Clean-up Days which were very well attended. You can see the fruits of our labor along 17th Street that now features a beautiful ornamental bed. Franklin Square’s second annual community Easter Egg Hunt was a tremendous success.

We Need Your Help!

Of course, all of these accomplishments would not have been possible without the generous help and support of our friends. There is so much more work to be done and WE NEED YOU! Join us and together we can build a better park! To volunteer, please email us at friendsoffranklinsquare@gmail.com.
