Current Project: Dog Play Area

Franklin Square is frequented by dog walkers and surrounded by dog-related businesses, but the Mission has few places where dog owners can let their dogs run free.  FoFS is working actively to garner support from the City and the community for the installation of a fenced off-leash dog play area (DPA).   Conceptual design work has been completed, siting the DPA just to the west of the playfield, facing Bryant Street.

As it stands now, FoFS has good support from the Board of Supervisors to build a DPA in Franklin Square despite a current moratorium on new DPAs.   Our primary activities now are gathering community signatures and letters of support from relevant local businesses and organizations such as Petco and the SPCA for presentation to the Planning Commission.  Once we have the go-ahead to add this to the slate of Recreation & Parks Department’s capital projects, the focus will shift to fundraising.

If you’d like to help out with our efforts to create a DPA in Franklin Square, please contact Peter Samuels at peter [at] petersamuels [dot] com.
